Science Committee Members Bonamici, Salinas, and Sykes Celebrate CHIPS & Science Funding for Oregon and Ohio
(WASHINGTON, DC) — Earlier this week, President Biden announced that Intel will receive $8.5 billion in funding from the CHIPS and Science Act to expand operations in Arizona, Ohio, New Mexico, and Oregon.
“Investments from the CHIPS and Science Act in Oregon’s Silicon Forest will help our region remain one of the world’s most important semiconductor and technology ecosystems," said Rep. Suzanne Bonamici (OR-1). "I’m thrilled that Intel will expand Oregon’s world-class research and development facilities, keeping Hillsboro’s Gordon Moore Park at the forefront of innovation. Importantly, this project will create thousands of sustainable, family-wage jobs. Intel has proactively prepared skilled workers to fill these positions by forming ongoing partnerships with the public school system and Portland Community College to develop workforce programs like Quick Start.”
“I am proud to announce that Intel will be receiving $8.5 billion from the CHIPS and Science Act, unlocking major new investments in America's semiconductor manufacturing industry,” said Rep. Andrea Salinas (OR-6). “I’m even more excited to share that some of this funding will be coming to Oregon! These dollars will help modernize Intel’s Hillsboro facility and create thousands of new, good-paying jobs in Washington County. It’s exactly the kind of investment we need to ensure Oregon continues to lead the world in chipmaking for decades to come.”
“Once again, the CHIPS and Science Act is providing our communities with the resources needed to ensure Ohio remains the heart of America’s manufacturing industry," said Rep. Emilia Sykes (OH-13). "This major, multi-billion dollar investment will boost our entire state’s economy, lower costs for Northeast Ohioans, and create thousands of good-paying, union jobs right here at home."
